From Rediff:

Selva, who is busy directing his first Telugu film Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule starring Venkatesh, young Tamil actor Srikkanth and Trisha, is taking time off from the shooting in Andhra, for the wedding on December 15 in Chennai. Sonia Agarwal’s family is already in Chennai and has invited Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to the wedding. Also expected to be there are former chief minister Jayalalithaa, and superstar Rajnikanth who is father-in-law to Selva’s younger brother Dhanush. As has become the trend, expect another star-studded affair!

So it’s true! They are getting married. Wish Sonia Agarwal a happy happy married life. Leave a comment.

How did you enter the Tamil film industry?

I was modelling in Mumbai when Selvaraghavan saw my pictures through an agency. When Kadhal Konden became a hit, I shifted my residence here. Though my Tamil speaking leaves a lot to be desired, I’m officially a Chennaite now!

Have you received offers from Bollywood?

I receive offers on a regular basis but I’d like to finish my commitments here before I venture into something else. Since I’m from Mumbai, I’m familiar with the language, lifestyle and culture.

Other than the films by Selvaraghavan, we haven’t seen you in any blockbusters. Why?

Heroines do not decide the fate of a film’s success or failure and for that I’m very grateful. Besides, I was one of the heroines in the Vijay starrer, Madhura, that was a huge hit.

Speaking of which, how was your experience working with Vijay?

I was very nervous initially but as the shooting progressed, we were comfortable in our distance. He doesn’t talk too much and is totally dedicated to his work. He is man of few words.

About your swimming costume in Thirutu Payale?

I was comfortable doing the swimming costume scene but I guess my fans aren’t. Because, the feedback that I have received has not been negative but neither has it been encouraging. I’m always portrayed as the good girl who gives a lot of advice. I suppose my audience relates to that a lot more than my bathing suit scene.

Are there any roles that you’ve always wanted to play?

I would love to play a negative role. It’s more difficult to get one in my case because of my image as Miss Goody-Two-Shoes. A negative role would definitely be pushing the limits of my acting ability but I’m in no hurry.

Are you getting married anytime soon?

Everyone knows about the man I’m seeing. I don’t want to say anything except that when it happens, everyone will know about it.

Sonia Agarwal debuted in 2003 in the Tamil movie Kadhal Konden. This is her first shot on screen ever.

Sonia Agarwal First Scene

Apparently, the first word she ever said on screen is “Rascal”! Watch the video here.

Kadhal Konden

Sonia AgarwalIn my opinion, Kadhal Konden is one of the best movies ever. Now, I know it is an “adaptation” of the German movie Klassenfahrt. And a couple of songs from the movie were awfully similar to or lifted shamelssly from little-known songs. But, but, but! It is still one of my few favorite movies, and I own this blog, so I can write whatever the heck I want here.

I like the movie so much, and add to that it is the first movie Sonia Agarwal starred - and I get so much to write about the movie I can’t fit it all in one post. I hold the movie very close to my heart, and even after three long years since the movie released, I still remember each and every scene, beginning to end. I am going to dedicate an entrie section of this website to this special movie very soon. Until then, enjoy the other posts.

Sonia Agarwal - Thiruttu PayaleFirst of all, you should know I am biased. I am fan of Sonia Agarwal, and I probably wouldn’t have bothered to watch the movie if she weren’t in it. That said, I was pleasantly surprised. Sonia Agarwal does not play much of a role, though.

The movie has an interesting story line, a nicely knitted screenplay, and a touch of realism, aptly supported by impressive performances by Jeevan and Malavika. And a wee bit more glamor than Susi Ganesan’s previous movies. It’s an adults-only movie, by the way.

Manickam (Jeevan) is your typical spoilt-in-the-childhood kid, who grows up to be a nuisance to his parents. He is rude, uncouth, and breaks a bottle on his brother’s head for a trivial reason. Having had enough, his parents decide to send him to Chennai, to live with his uncle, whom he inexplicably respects. In Chennai, he accidentally watches a rich couple Ramesh (Abbas) and Roopini (Malavika) making out in a golf field. When he comes to know that it is, after all, a relationship outside marriage, he captures the act on video and blackmails Roopini. Left with no choice, she showers him with loads of money, and even sends him to Australia on a vacation.

Sonia Agarwal - Thiruttu PayaleManickam meets Rosy (Sonia Agarwal) in Australia, and instantly falls in love with her. But unfortunately for him, Rosy disappears and it turns out to be a trap set by Roopini, who demands the tape in return for Rosy. The movie unfolds to show if Manickam would give up money for Rosy.

Sonia Agarwal looks great, and so does Malavika. Vivek handles humor, and carries it off in his own style pretty well. Songs are easy to forget. The director Susi Ganesan plays a cameo as Sivaraj’s (Malavika’s husband) friend. And it’s way better than Perarasu’s cameo in Tirupathi. For that matter, Thiruttu Payale is waaaaay better than Tirupathi. Check it out.

Pudupettai was supposed to release on April 14 for Tamil New Year, but unfortunately, it didn’t. Well, I guess we’ll have to wait a bit more to see another Sonia Agarwal - Selvaraghavan combo. Both Kadhal Konden and 7G Rainbow Colony were huge hits and Selva brought out the best of Sonia Agarwal’s acting skills.

Sonia Agarwal and SelvaraghavanIf you live in Chennai, you have heard it. Sonia Agarwal and Selvaraghavan are going around. They are getting married soon. They are already married. Well, there’s no official news yet, but both Sonia and Selva have denied the matter for long, dismissing them as baseless rumors. There also have been reports that Selvaraghavan has admitted that they are in love and would get married in a year. (If that’s true, Selva’s a lucky man!).

Recently, there was news that Sonia, after all, has married Selva and that’s why she hasn’t been in too many movies lately. Sonia Agarwal, participating in the audio launch of “Vettayadu Vilayaadu”, Kamal’s latest movie, denied the allegations. She said lack of interestring scripts is why she is not acting in a lot of movies.

Sonia Agarwal and Jeevan in Thiruttu Payale“Thiruttu Payale”, starring Jeevan (of University and Kaaka Kaaka fame) and Sonia Agarwal, released for Tamil New Year on April 14, 2006. Sonia Agarwal plays Rosy, a cosmopolitan girl, who lives in Australia, and who Jeevan falls in love with. She “oozes with glamour” in the first half, and I am sure it will be a treat to our eyes.

Susi Ganesan, director, says Sonia Agarwal was so impressed with the script she decided to be part of the movie despite her busy schedule. From what we have seen in Five Star, Susi Ganesan’s last movie, and given that there have been only three movies released on Tamil New Year (Azhagai Irukkirai Bayamai Irukkirathu and Tirupathi are the other two), and one of them - I need not mention which - will be nobody’s competition, let’s hope Thiruttu Payale does good business and keeps Sonia Agarwal in the race.

Sonia AgarwalWelcome to the Sonia Agarwal blog. As you may have guessed by now, I am a big fan of Sonia Agarwal, and this is my little place on the web dedicated to the beautiful actress. I have collected a large number of resources - pictures, videos, interview transcripts, biography information - and I intend to put all that up here pretty soon. If you’re a fan, drop me a comment or a suggestion.

For others who have no idea who Sonia Agarwal is, or what the heck this website is about, here’s a short introduction:

Sonia Agarwal is a popular South Indian actress shot to fame with her debut in the Tamil movie Kadhal Konden (2003). Since then, she has acted in several Tamil and Telugu movies, and is often rumored to have been in love with Selvaraghavan, a talented, young director, who introduced her in Kadhal Konden, and cast her in his follwing movies, 7G Rainbow Colony, and the yet unreleased Pudupettai. Both Kadhal Konden and 7G Rainbow Colony were huge hits and wonderfully displayed the acting prowess of this young, beautiful girl. For more information, check out her biography.
